Spring is here and so are fleas, ticks & mosquitoes. We can help you keep your pet free from these pesky pests. Flea & tick infestation can be life threatening to your pet if left untreated. Fleas & ticks actually feed off of your pet by biting them and sucking their blood. Flea & tick anemia (low red blood count) is especially dangerous for young animals, dogs & cats less than 10 pounds, and elderly animals. There are effective preventatives such as Advantage & Frontline which kill fleas and ticks as they get on your pet. Over the counter products are not recommended as they can cause adverse effects or even death. Be sure to check with us before applying anything to your pet.
Mosquitoes are a constant battle for us here in Central North Texas, and they are annoying for our pets too. Mosquitoes are
carriers for heartworms, a mosquito that bites a dog or cat with heartworms can infect another dog or cat by biting them.
Even if your pet is only in the house and never goes outside he/she is still able to contract heartworm infestation.
Heartworms actually live in the dog or cats bloodstream and when they reach adulthood set up house keeping in your
pet’s heart, therefore decreasing the efficiency of that animal’s heart, and greatly shortening its lifespan. There are
prescription products on the market to prevent heartworm infection. We recommend starting your dog and cat on
heartworm prevention when they are young (less than 4 months of age) and continuing them throughout their
entire life. If your adult cat or dog has not been on heartworm prevention before, we can do a simple blood
test to determine his/her heartworm status and if they are negative get them started on a lifetime monthly
heartworm prevention. We carry a variety of heartworm preventatives: Heartgard Plus, Interceptor,
Sentinel, & Revolution. All which can prevent heartworms by killing at the larval stage before the
heartworms reach adulthood. These products also cover a variety of intestinal parasites
depending on the product. These intestinal worms such as Roundworms, hookworms,
& whipworms can easily be removed from your pet by just giving a single pill once a
month.
We want your pets to be healthy and happy, by protecting them
from these parasites they will give you years of unconditional
love and affection.
